Big Guys Big Day

We were noticing that Big Guy was limping a little on his back paw and it looked a little red so we made an appointment with the closest Vet we could find out here.  She was in a small town about 30 minutes east of the Badlands called Kadoka.  We took our chances and rode out there.  It’s a VERY small town but the Vet was awesome.  Her name is Dr. Norma Headlee and she and her husband have been veterinarians there for 40 years. They primarily work on large farm animals like horses, cows and even bison so Big Guy was no problem for her.  He had some cattle grass or something stuck between his toes and it got a little infected but she cleaned him all up and gave him some antibiotics.  He’ll live 🙂 She took me and John on a behind the scenes tour of where they do the surgery on the big animals.  I can’t even imagine……

Here she’s showing us the machine they use to turn a cow upside down to preform cesarian sections.  She said they do about 250 a year.

Here’s me with Dr. Headlee.  I think she scared me a little!

She took very good care of the Big Guy even though he acted like a little baby.  She wrapped up his paw and he’s home resting now after his big adventure.
